New resource pack for primary care
NHS Kidney Care has launched a new resource pack designed to help primary care teams recognise and manage early-stage CKD. The pack contains a number of resources including summary posters of the NICE guidelines on CKD screening and interpreting proteinuria, practical tips developed by a GP, key facts on CKD, and commissioning resources. Hard copies of the packs will be distributed from NHS Kidney Care’s exhibition stand at next week’s Primary Care North, and can also be ordered by emailing admin@kidneycare.nhs.uk. How-to guide: e-alerts ensure timely response to acute kidney injury
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has set up a real-time electronic alert system to help ensure that cases of acute kidney injury are identified early and appropriately managed. A new how-to guide looks at how the system was set up, and the benefits that has resulted, and offers practical tips for those setting up similar systems. Kidney units claim funding to develop cause for concern registers
Seventeen kidney centres have successfully claimed funding from NHS Kidney Care to develop existing cause for concern registers and to facilitate better communication with primary care. This project follows a survey which showed that many kidney units in England have established, or are in the process of setting up, Cause for Concern registers, but which highlighted issues around the linkage of the registers and communication with primary care. HSE chapter on kidney care
The newly launched Health Survey for England (HSE) 2010 report features a chapter dedicated to kidney disease and renal function, which was commissioned by NHS Kidney Care. The HSE is carried out annually on behalf of The NHS Information Centre, and is designed to provide regular information on various aspects of the nation's health. The new chapter combines data from HSE 2009 and 2010 to produce results from more than 6,000 participants, to generate greater precision of the estimates produced. Wednesday webinars
The kidney community is being invited to suggest ideas and topics for a new series of weekly e-seminars being launched by NHS Kidney Care, to enable the sharing of innovative ideas and examples of ‘what works’. The e-seminars will take place each Wednesday lunchtime, and will all follow the same format, with a 20 minute presentation by a speaker or speakers, followed by 40 minutes for questions from the audience. They will be free to attend, and promoted through NHS Kidney Care’s website.
The first “Wednesday Webinar” will take place on 25th January and will focus on fluid management in kidney care, and the importance of hydration in reducing the incidence of acute kidney injury. The webinar has been planned to coincide with the launch of a ‘Nutrition and Hydration Week’ a national awareness raising week from Patient Safety First.
