Whitworth Building, University of Manchester

Monday 5 March 2012
Academy of Medical Sciences, London

Monday 12 March 2012
Kidney Research UK, Nene Hall, Peterborough

To mark its 50th year funding research to save lives, Kidney Research UK, has launched the Kidney Research UK Alumni. The Alumni comprises research, basic science and clinical professionals, including as its Core membership, all current and past research fellows and PhD students supported by the Charity. ‘Associate Membership’ at £25.00 per year, is available on application for the wider renal and research community, and an ‘Honorary Member’ category will be developed for those working closely with the Charity to help develop the Alumni programme.

The scheme is specifically designed to foster greater collaboration, share knowledge and best practice and to provide a range of support in order to continue developing the dynamic renal research community in the UK. Members will also be encouraged to develop their communication skills and increase their involvement with the Charity, acting as advocates, informing the public about their research and what has and can be been achieved.

It is hoped that members of the Alumni will also be able to help the Charity to grow its income, by becoming involved in our fundraising events, or giving in other ways such as setting up a regular gift, and encouraging others to do the same.

One of the main aspects of the Alumni initiative is an ongoing series of interactive workshops for members, starting in the Spring of 2012. With input from a Steering Group and through feedback from over 100 current and past research Fellows, these will be an extension of the annual Fellows Day conference and will allow further development of research skills and expertise. Leaders in kidney research will be invited to share their experiences and findings from their work, and there will be practical sessions covering a range of ‘grantsmanship’ topics.

Dates are confirmed as – Thursdaz 1 March (Manchester), Monday 5 March (London) and Monday12 March (Peterborough)
