Attractively set in a car park at the Western General Infirmary site, our Portakabins provide a cosy and friendly environment for 6 shifts of dialysis patients.
The unit is just next to the location of the old Transplant Unit, which was one of the first purpose-built transplant units in the UK. The bridge that you can see over the road was to transport patients back and forth from their whole body irradiation treatment, the only (and dangerous) form of immunosuppression at the time.
We accommodate some holiday dialysis patients here on evening shifts. For more information about this and the Edinburgh renal unit, see the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary page. |
