AEG Raine Award
The Raine Award was established in memory of Tony Raine, Professor of Renal Medicine at Barts, following his tragically early death in 1995. This prestigious annual award is made to a relatively junior investigator (usually 35 years of age or less) who has made a significant contribution to renal research. The awardee usually makes a presentation of the work which has led up to the award at a Renal Association Conference.

The award of £300 is only available to Renal Association members. Representatives from the Executive Committee will consider the applications and the winner will be announced annually. The standard of applications for this award has been high. Unsuccessful candidates are encouraged to apply again in the next round if they still fit the general criteria.
Submissions may be made between May 1st and August 31st each year. Decisions will usually be made by the end of September. Late applications will NOT be accepted.

Walls Bursaries
These bursaries were established in memory of the late Professor John Walls, President of the Renal Association 1995-1998, who died in 2001. Their aim is to help Renal Association members to spend short periods (e.g. weeks or months) at other centres, generally outside the UK, to learn new laboratory techniques or gain new clinical skills
Two bursaries are usually available each year, one for a clinician and one for a non-clinician. Applicants should have made a significant contribution to the field of Academic Nephrology and the award can only be made once to any once individual. £1,000 is awarded to help Renal Association members to
- present work
- visit an overseas laboratory or clinical Nephrology unit (often these will be collaborating centres).
Submissions may be made between May 1st and August 31st each year. Decisions will usually be made by the end of September. Late applications will NOT be accepted.
Applications should be made as an email to the Renal Association Secretariat. Applicants must include in the application:
- A statement that he/she is a current member of the Renal Association
- A mini-CV of not more than two A4 sides, with an emphasis on academic achievements including a list of key original research publications
- Brief details of centres overseas to be visited
- A supporting statement by the Head of the applicant’s UK Department.
Please provide the documents in PDF format. Successful recipients will be required to submit a brief report of approximately 500 words.

Lockwood Award
These were established in memory of the late Dr Martin Lockwood, a distinguished investigator and active member of the Renal Association, who died in 1999. They are the successor to the Milne-Muehrcke award. £1,000 is awarded to help Renal Association members to present work and combine this with a visit to a collaborating laboratory or clinical nephrology unit overseas.
Submissions may be made between May 1st and August 31st each year. Decisions will usually be made by the end of September. Late applications will NOT be accepted.

Amgen Bursaries
Since 2007, Amgen have generously sponsored bursaries of £500 to support attendance at the Renal Association annual meeting. The bursaries are awarded competitively each year. This year 10 will be awarded. Applicants must be:

Current member of the Renal Association
-
Presenting an abstract at the Renal Association annual meeting
-
Under 35 years old on the first day of the annual meeting
-
Not a consultant, senior lecturer or professor
Application forms are sent to all those Renal Association members who have had an abstract accepted. Each bursary is worth up to £500 and successful candidates will receive the funds on submission of receipts in relation to the conference (including registration, accommodation and reasonable travel expenses). Medical Student Elective Bursaries
The Renal Association awards 8 bursaries each year to medical students who are planning to undertake electives which include a significant renal component, either clinical or research. The 8 successful applicants will receive a bursary of £250 (each) and we require an essay of around 750 words describing your experience, and how the elective added value to your work. We would like to receive the report within 3 months of your return from the elective, please provide this in PDF format.
Applications open 1st December each year and close 6 weeks later on the 12th January.
