The UK CKD Guidelines (2005)

on the Renal Association website

Patient information

CKD is both much more common and more important than previously recognised.

These guidelines suggest ways for identifying and managing kidney disease in the community, reserving referral for those who need care from specialist nephrologists (kidney doctors).

The short eGuide is a summary of the guidelines as webpages. Many pages have info boxes like this one, often with additional information at the foot of the page. A printed Concise Guide is also available (see text).

The UK Guidelines for the management of Chronic Kidney Disease were published in June 2005 following extensive investigation and consultation by a multidisiplinary group under the auspices of the Joint Specialty Committee of the RCP and Renal Association. More information from the introduction to the Guidelines. Links below are to the full guidelines as well as to shorter versions. The online short eCKD guide is on this website.

In February 2007 the Renal Association, Scottish Renal Association and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh produced a Consensus Statement and Management Recommendations for early CKD.
